Some people really are small minded...
Okay, so not too long ago at work, I got asked by someone 'Are you a Goth?'
My reply went something along the lines of this...
'So because I have tattoos and piercings, wear black and wear a studded belt most days, you think I'm a Goth?' And the person replied with 'No, I was just asking'.
Okay, so I do like *elements* of the Goth and Emo style, but that by no means that I'm a Goth etc. Seriously, some people are so small minded it aint funny.

I don't think it is necesarily small-mindedness so much as mis-information. The popular image of Goths and Emos involves tattoos, peircings, black clothes and studs.
People don't know, see what they think might be one thing, because of something they have seen in the media, and ask. If they were truly small-minded, they'd make it a put-down, rather than a question.
